The Game Awards 2022: Tekken 8 and Dead Space set to be showcased; where to watch, start time, and other details

Keighley said in an Epic Games interview that there will be '40 to 50 games' announced at the “biggest show yet”. 

The Game Awards are almost upon us and that means we’ll soon find out the game of the year. George Keighley-hosted Game Awards are equally well-known as the platform for publishers and developers to showcase their upcoming games. Here is The Game Awards 2022 start time, where to watch, and other details. We’ve also listed all the confirmed announcements for the awards as well as the appearances teased by The Game Awards or the publishers. 


The Game Awards 2022 start time

The Game Awards 2022 will be live-streamed on December 8. There will first be a 30-minute pre-show at 4:30 PM PT / 7:30 PM ET followed by the main show at 5 PM PT / 8 PM ET / 7 PM CDT / 8 PM ET / 2 AM GMT.

In India, that’s December 9 at 6 AM for the pre-show. The main show will kick off at 6:30 AM. The Game Awards will feature over 30 categories across gaming and esports such as Game of the Year. There’s a new award category announced this year for Best Adaptation. This category will feature nominations for best adaptations of video games into different forms of media like movies and TV shows. 


The Game Awards 2022 reveals 

There have been several reveals already from The Game Awards and Keighley himself, amid various reports featuring potential announcements. For starters, Keighley said in an Epic Games interview that there will be "40 to 50 games" announced at the “biggest show yet”. 

Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida will give a live presentation at the Game Awards and there will also be a  performance from popular musician Hozier of "Blood Upon The Snow" from God of War Ragnarok. 

505 Games confirmed that they’ll be revealing a new project at The Game Awards. The project involves Michael Madsen, known for portraying Mr Blonde in Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs.   

 

 

There will also be an announcement coming from Among Us, as revealed by the company on social media. 

 

The Last of Us will be coming to HBO in January next year and we’re likely to get a better look at the series based on the iconic video game series. Actors Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey have been invited to the show and they’ll be joined by Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson who portrayed the duo of Joel and Ellie in the video games.

Dead Space

There will be a confirmed look at the Dead Space remake. Those attending the IMAX viewing of The Game Awards will get to see an exclusive "extended gameplay preview" of the Dead Space remake. 

While the attendees will get an extended look, there should be a shorter version featured at the live event for the general audience. 


Star Wars: Jedi Survivor

There are reports claiming that Star Wars: Jedi Survivor will be featured at The Game Awards 2022. Tom Henderson (via Insider Gaming) even claimed that the game will be presented somewhere around 30 minutes into the event. Even for an industry-insider report, that’s specific and it’ll be interesting to see if and when Star Wars: Jedi Survivor makes an appearance at The Game Awards.  

Tekken 8

Twitch streamer AvoidingThePuddle tweeted a photo of a package that contains a t-shirt with the Tekken 8 logo on it. There’s also a message that asks people to “tune into The Game Awards livestream”. George Keighley also replied to the tweet, fueling speculation that Tekken 8 will indeed be presented at The Game Awards 2022. 

Later, Tekken’s Twitter account confirmed that Tekken 8 will indeed show up at the event. 


The Game Awards 2022: Where to watch?  

Fans can watch The Game Awards live on official YouTube and Twitch channels. There will also be live feeds on social media sites like Facebook, TikTok, and Twitter. 

Steam, the popular PC games platform, will also be live streaming the event. More importantly, they’ll be giving away a free Steam Deck every minute of the live stream but that’s exclusively for users in Canada and US. US and Canadian citizens can register themselves and watch the stream on Steam to have a chance at winning the handheld console by Valve.
