Summer Game Fest 2022 is set to return on June 9; IMAX to bring the show to movie halls

Television presenter and video game journalist Geoff Keighley shared the details about the return of the Summer Game Fest 2022 on May 5, 2022. As per the announcement, this mid-year video game celebration and preview will take place on June 9. Keighley also announced that IMAX is collaborating with both the Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards. As part of the collaboration, IMAX will premiere both the shows in select theatres. Tribeca Games Spotlight and Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase have already been announced as part of the lineup for Summer Game Fest 2022. Summer Game Fest in IMAX theatres
Summer Game Fest was earlier reported to kick off in June and now we have an official date for the show. As mentioned above, IMAX has partnered with Summer Game Fest and The Game Awards for the first time. Select IMAX theatres will premier both gaming events across the US, Canada, and the UK. We will need to wait for the formal date for The Game Awards 2022, which usually takes place sometime in December.

Schedule and lineup of current shows
The event will start with an event called “The Kickoff Show”. The event’s FAQ section states that the event, hosted by Geoff Keighley, will see publishers and platforms making game announcements. The show will also feature release dates and launch trailers of these developers’ upcoming games. As part of the announcement, Keighley also shared an announcement teaser for the Summer Game Fest 2022.
It is worth noting that the Summer Game Fest will include showcase events from multiple game publishers and developers. Currently, we know about two of the showcase events. Tribeca Games Spotlight is one of the first showcases announced by Summer Game Fest. The show is scheduled for June 10 with “exclusive gameplay and creator interviews from Tribeca's official selections.” The second showcase event as part of the Summer Game Fest 2022 is the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase. This event is set for June 12 with games showcase from Xbox and its game development studios including new information about ongoing and future projects.
A Day of the Devs event will also take place in June as part of the Summer Game Fest. This event is aimed to cast a spotlight on upcoming and hidden gems from the Indie games category. The event first debuted back in 2012 and they have covered 500 games so far. iam8bit and Double Fine will present the event this time. In the past, companies and developers have presented games like “Arise: A Simple Story”, “Ghostrunner” and “Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order” at the Day of the Devs events.
With E3 canceled for 2022, Summer Game Fest looks to be the biggest gaming showcase to take place this year. Interested gamers and fans can stream the Summer Game Fest 2022 live on YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, and Facebook on June 9 at 11:30 PM IST.
Expected games include Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
According to the report by Exputer, a leaker has claimed that Activision is looking to unveil the upcoming Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 on June 2. Summer Game Fest 2022 starts a week from the leaked date so there could be new information revealed about Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 at the event itself. Leaker TheGhostofHope earlier claimed that the reveal was set for May 30th.

Summer Game Fest 2021
Last year, Summer Game Fest showcased the gameplay trailer for Elden Ring, a title that has taken the gaming world by storm. The gaming festival also featured the announcement of Death Stranding: Director’s Cut on PlayStation 5, and more. Last year’s Day of the Devs: Summer Game Fest Edition highlighted several indie titles such as Death’s Door, Axiom Verge 2, and Last Stop.
