Cyberpunk 2077: Sony pulls the game from PlayStation Store, CDPR shares why it didn't delay
This comes just hours after CD Projekt Red, the developer addressed why it did not delay the game again. Here is everything we know about Sony pulling Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store, refunds, and more.
Sony has just made a major announcement regarding Cyberpunk 2077, one of the most anticipated games in 2020. According to the announcement, the company has decided to delist the game from the PlayStation Store. In addition, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is also offering full refunds to anyone who purchased the game from the store. The company has also shared a URL in the announcement post which will start the refund process. This comes just hours after CD Projekt Red (CDPR), the developer addressed why it did not delay the game again. Here is everything we know about the announcement where Sony pulled Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store, refunds, and more.
Cyberpunk 2077 delisted from Sony PlayStation Store, details
According to the information available, Sony made the announcement this morning through its “Ask PlayStation” Twitter account. It also acknowledged some issues in the process a few hours later while asking users to try again later. Sony has already removed the search listing for the game from PlayStation consoles (both the PS4 and the PS5) and the web version of the store. One can still access the actual game listing but there is no “Buy” option. Interested buyers can only add the title to their “wish list”. Looking at the announcement, Sony stated, “SIE strives to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction”.
For some context, our last report noted that Sony PlayStation owners were facing difficulties in getting a refund for the game. Sony representatives were rejecting the requests for refunds as CDPR has promised future updates to fix the game. This meant that Cyberpunk 2077 could not qualify for the “faulty content” option during the refund process. Around the same time, CDPR also asked players to hold on from requesting refunds. The situation reached this point after multiple Cyberpunk 2077 buyers on-base last-gen consoles noted how the performance of the game was not up to par.
Previously reports also noted how CDPR did not share the Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay footage on older consoles before the launch. This prevented players from making informed decisions about their purchases. Sony likely made this mode because it did not want to change its PlayStation game refund policy just because of one game. Hence, delisting the game was a much easier move than anything else. We are not sure when Sony will bring back the game on its PlayStation Store. Currently, the company notice states that the digital version of the game will not come back “until further notice”.
CD Projekt Red promises updates, addresses why it did not delay again
CDPR has already noted that it is working on multiple updates to the game to fix the bugs. More significant bug fixes will roll out in January and February to fix the performance problems on older generation consoles. In addition, the company also addressed the questions about delaying the game again. It stated that it did not face any “external or internal pressure” to launch the game on December 10.
The decision to launch the game then and not push it further was because it did not focus on last-generation versions of the game. CDPR stated that “in theory” it could have just launched the PC version of the game on December 10. It also noted that Cyberpunk 2077 received certification on Xbox and PlayStation because Microsoft and Sony trusted the company.
