Ubisoft to launch a new open-world Star Wars game under Lucasfilm Games; Avatar Project unaffected

Video game publisher Ubisoft has just announced that it is working on a new, open-world Star Wars game. The company noted that this new game will part of the recently announced Lucasfilm Games banner. We also got to know that Sweden-based video game developer and studio Massive Entertainment is making the game. The developer is known for making Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, Far Cry 3, and Tom Clancy’s The Division series. Ubisoft announces new Star Wars Game, details

As per the statement from Yves Guillemot, the CEO and co-founder of Ubisoft, the company plans to deliver a “groundbreaking” adventure. Guillemot stated that this is just, “the beginning of a long-term collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm Games.” The announcement also noted that Julian Gerighty from Massive Entertainment will be the creative director for the upcoming game. Gerighty stated, “This is a lore that we love, and we want to do it justice with a game and story that bring both lifelong and new fans on an immersive and outstanding journey that will stay with them for years.”

Lucasfilm Games Vice President, Doug Reilly reaffirmed that they would continue to work with EA for more Star Wars games. He noted that the company was “really proud of the games” and their “relationship has never been stronger”. Reilly also stated that it has “got a number of projects underway” with EA. Massive Entertainment is also working on an unnamed Avatar game that was initially announced in 2017. This game will be set in the Avatar world created by James Cameron. Cameron is currently working on a new Avatar movie scheduled to launch in 2022. The game developer noted that this new Star Wars project will not affect the development of the Avatar title.

This announcement comes just hours after Lucasfilm Games announced a new Indiana Jones game. As we noted in a previous report, MachineGames, the creators of Wolfenstein will work on the upcoming game from Bethesda. This comes just hours after Lucasfilm revived the Lucasfilm Games branding as the official identity of all Lucasfilm properties.
