However, the company is yet to share any details about the pricing, launch date, and pre-orders for the Indian market. In contrast, its rival Microsoft has shared all the relevant details along with the exact launch date and pricing. As we wait for information from Sony, a new report has surfaced online hinting at the possible reason for the delay.

Sony PlayStation 5 India launch delay; possible reasons

As per The Mako Reactor, Sony India does not hold the trademark for PS5 in the market. Instead, a Delhi resident, Hitesh Aswani filed for the trademark on October 29, 2019. The report outlined that Sony India filed for the trademark on February 6, 2020. In addition, Sony also filed for the trademark for the official PS5 logo on February 28, 2020. The original report directed use towards the official listing on the Government of India Public Search of Trade Marks website. You can check all three trademarks after putting “PS5” in the “Wordmark” text field and “28” in the Class field.

Currently, the status of all three trademark applications in “Opposed”. The report clarified that this happens when “a third-party” thinks that a published or applied trademark is “non-distinctive”. Sony also issued a “no comments” statement in response to the original report. It is unclear if the company is waiting for the resolution of the trademark dispute. It is also possible that the company may launch the product under a different branding as Asus did with the “Zenfone” branding.

The report went ahead to note that the issue at hand is likely to cause major problems for Sony. Sony is likely to find it quite easy to resolve the issue around its PS5 trademark dispute. However, this is still delaying the launch of the next generation gaming console in the Indian market. The multi-national giant should have covered its bases as it has done in other countries.
