Ubisoft teams up with Netflix for Assassin’s Creed series, details
The most interesting part of this announcement is the fact that this partnership is not limited to one series. Instead, this is the first of many series that Netflix hopes to make in the coming years. In fact, the company will also likely create animated, and anime series around the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Netflix Vice President, Peter Friedlander shared a statement noting that he is excited about this partnership. The statement reads, “We’re excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin’s Creed is beloved for.”
Furthermore, Friedlander added, “From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and provide a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy.” Jason Altman, the head of Ubisoft Film & Television also shared a similar statement. Altman stated, “For more than 10 years, millions of fans around the world have helped shape the Assassin’s Creed brand into an iconic franchise.”
Altman concluded by adding, “We’re thrilled to create an Assassin’s Creed series with Netflix, and we look forward to developing the next saga in the Assassin’s Creed universe.” For some context, the first Assassin’s Creed game landed back in 2007. Since then, the series has sold more than 155 million copies across the globe. It is also worth noting that this is not the first attempt to create Assassin’s Creed-related live-action content. Back in 2016, 20th Century Fox released Assassin’s Creed film with Michael Fassbender as the main star. Finally, Netflix also released a modified version of its logo to tease the Assassin's Creed series.
